Position: Program Officer
1. SSWC Background
The Save Somali Women and Children (SSWC) is a registered non-profit organization established in 1992 and with its headquarter Mogadishu with field offices in South and Central Somalia. SSWC was founded by a group of Somali female intellectuals from a cross section of the community and has a longstanding history of promoting women’s rights and advocacy work both nationally and internationally.
SSWC is women-led and women-centred organization advancing women’s roles at all levels of peace building and conflict resolution, governance and the empowerment of vulnerable women to regain their dignity. SSWC is recognized for its strategic and intensive networking and advocacy campaign for strengthening women economic empowerment and gender equality. SSWC programming reflects the needs of vulnerable populations by addressing humanitarian gaps for women and children and supporting women to overcome marginalization, violence and poverty. SSWC thematic priority area is to protect women against sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV), including genital female mutilation (FGM), especially targeting internally displaced persons (IDPs).
An Education Program Officer is responsible in assisting program manager in designing, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating educational programs within an organization, often focusing on specific areas like curriculum development, teacher training, community engagement, and ensuring quality education delivery, while collaborating with local stakeholders and government agencies to achieve project goals; key duties include planning activities, managing budgets, collecting data, reporting progress, and advocating for educational needs within the target community.
Key responsibilities of an Education Program Officer:
Program Design and Planning:
Conduct needs assessments to identify educational gaps and priorities.
Develop comprehensive education programs aligned with organizational goals and local context.
Create detailed work plans, budgets, and implementation timelines.
Design curriculum and teaching materials appropriate for the target population.
Implementation and Monitoring:
Facilitate teacher training programs and capacity building initiatives.
Oversee the delivery of educational activities in schools and community settings.
Monitor program progress through data collection, using established indicators and reporting tools.
Collaborate with local partners, government officials, and community leaders to ensure program effectiveness.
Evaluation and Reporting:
Conduct regular program evaluations to assess impact and identify areas for improvement.
Prepare comprehensive reports documenting program achievements, challenges, and lessons learned.
Analyze data to inform program adjustments and strategic decision-making.
Stakeholder Engagement:
Build relationships with key stakeholders including community leaders, education authorities, and partner organizations.
Facilitate communication and coordination between different stakeholders involved in the program.
Advocate for policies and practices that support quality education delivery.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
Degree in education, international development, or a related field preferred
Proven experience in designing, implementing, and managing education programs
Strong understanding of educational methodologies, curriculum development, and assessment practices
Excellent data analysis and reporting skills
Proven ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders and build strong partnerships
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Fluency in local languages and English preferred
Work Environment:
