INTRODUCTION:
SSWC in partnership with CRS is implementing Nabadoon Reconciliation Activity in Somalia that aims to build the structures, processes, and relationships to transform inter-communal conflict and move communities peacefully and fruitfully into the future. The project targets communities in South and Central Somalia particularly for the target Districts of Jowhar, Afgoye,Warsheikh and Barawe.
As part of Nabadoon Reconciliation Activity implementation activities, SSWC and CPD plans to facilitate workshops to design and implement CMDRR plans with existing community NRM groups, state actors, and private sector and peace committees. To inform CMDRR planning Nabadoon Reconciliation Activity will first conduct a participatory disaster risk assessment (PDRA). The PDRA process will increase community members’ understanding of the hazards, vulnerabilities and capacities of the community and diverse community members to enable them to develop appropriate solutions to improve their situation. The PDRA will be undertaken in order to understand the current conditions so as to build local adaptive capacities through medium-to long-term strategies. Nabadoon Reconciliation Activity will use the PDRA outcomes to inform CMDRR plans to increase community resilience and develop positive coping mechanisms in the target Districts of Afgoye, Warsheik, Barawe and Jowhar.
Disaster Risk Assessment is a critical process in understanding vulnerabilities, hazards, and the potential impacts of disasters on communities. This participatory disaster risk assessment aims to engage stakeholders at all levels in the entire target Districts, ensuring that the assessment is comprehensive, inclusive, and reflective of the local context and knowledge.
