VACANCY SUMMARY
- Vacancy No 07/2023: Project Manager
NEXUS Consortium Somalia (https://nexusom.org/) is an association for civil society leadership to advance a new community-driven model of partnership promoting peaceful, thriving, and empowered communities in Somalia and Somaliland. This unique platform, led by eight pioneering Somali NGOs, aspires to lead a locally driven agenda for change, finding common cause and syncing interventions with government authorities, private sector, and the international community.
- Background: Nexus Consortium through two of its member organizations; SADO and HAVOYOCO will implement a climate smart agriculture project. The project aims to ‘Improve household livelihoods security and ability to adapt and manage climate risks among drought affected small and medium sized farmers from marginalized communities in Baardhere and Gabiley districts, Somalia’’. The project entails provision of training on climate change adaptive smart farming techniques to the local farmers, provision of agricultural support inputs to support increased farm productivity and support the farming production groups and cooperatives access better markets.
- Job Purpose: The Project Manager will have leadership responsibility for the overall management of the grant, which will primarily be implemented through two local member organizations. S/he will provide strategic and operational leadership to implement a successful program. S/he will ensure adherence to overall technical and programmatic quality in implementation, compliance with Center for Disaster Philanthropy (CPD) rules and regulations, and the timely submission of all deliverables, including reports as required. The Project Manager will be responsible for the overall direction and coordination of the activities of the Implementing Partners.
- Reports to: Nexus Consortium Executive Director.
- Duty Station: Somalia/Somaliland.
- Responsibilities
- Provide strategic guidance, strong leadership and ensure technically sound decision-making processes in coordination with the Executive Director.
- Ensure compliance with and adherence to Nexus Consortium Somalia and Center for Disaster Philanthropy (CDP) rules and regulations.
- Ensure timely startup and implementation of the project in collaboration with program staff, Implementing Partners, and relevant departments.
- In liaison with Monitoring Evaluation Research and Learning officer, ensure regular and on time monitoring and monthly reporting on all project management aspects including the budget and actual expenses analysis, and work-plan progress updating, procurement plan revision, IPTT data collection and analysis and monitoring of indicators, flag and troubleshoot when issues arise during implementation.
- Initiate and strengthen strategic relationships with key stakeholders such as the partners, other NGO actors, the local government, and the local community.
- Ensure effective partner management through periodic review of partners’ work plans and budget, follow-up, and timely submission of narrative and financial reports to facilitate proper tracking of resource use.
- Support baseline surveys, regular monitoring, review, and evaluation, in cooperation with the Monitoring Evaluation Research and Learning officer.
- Produce high quality reports within agreed reporting schedules.
- Lead the documentation and dissemination of learning on scalable climate smart agricultural practices and lessons learned to share with the Consortium, as well as other key stakeholders.
- Qualifications, Experience and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in agriculture, climate change adaptation, food security or related field with 5 years’ relevant experience.
- At least 3 years’ experience in project management in livelihoods and food security, economic empowerment, and community development in rural/agro-pastoral contexts.
- Demonstrated ability to write high quality technical reports.
- Experience engaging with partner organizations.
- Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL) skills and experience in the field of agriculture.
- Experience using MS Windows and MS Office packages (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), Web Conferencing Applications, information management systems.
- Excellent Knowledge of Computer applications like Excel, Word, Access, and Power point.
- High level of written and spoken command of English.
- Grant management and reporting skill.
