Activity Name: | Gendered Conflict Analysis (GCA) |
Timeline: | 3 Weeks |
Location: | Adado, Galgadud, Somalia |
1. Background
Save Somali Women and Children (SSWC) through the support of Oxfarm somalia has initiated the Community-Driven Development (CDD) project, which empowers communities to prioritize, plan, and implement their own development initiatives. To support this project, SSWC requires a Gendered Conflict Analysis (GCA) in Adado, Galgadud, which will examine the gendered dimensions of conflict in the district. This analysis will help identify opportunities for women and marginalized groups to actively participate in the CDD process.
In Somalia, where prolonged instability has created complex social structures and power imbalances, understanding gender dynamics is crucial for the success of any development intervention. Adado, located in the Galgadud region, exemplifies the multifaceted challenges that arise in conflict-affected areas, particularly regarding the roles and experiences of women and marginalized groups.
Over the years, Adado has witnessed cycles of violence and displacement that have disproportionately affected these groups, often leaving them marginalized and excluded from decision-making processes. This exclusion not only hampers their potential contributions to community development but also perpetuates existing inequalities. Conducting a Gendered Conflict Analysis (GCA) is essential for uncovering the specific ways in which gender intersects with conflict dynamics, thereby shaping the development landscape in Adado.
A GCA goes beyond mere research; it is a vital tool for ensuring that development initiatives are tailored to the diverse experiences and needs of all community members. By examining the gendered dimensions of conflict, this analysis will help illuminate underlying power dynamics, social norms, and economic factors that affect women’s participation and leadership in community initiatives. This understanding is crucial for identifying opportunities to enhance the involvement of women and marginalized groups in the CDD process. It is in light of this that Save Somali Women and Children (SSWC) is seeking to contract a qualified consultancy firm to conduct GCA. The consultancy firm will be required to undertake the task listed in the scope of work in TOR.
